Booted eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus or Aquila pennata)

A small eagle, generally about the size of a buzzard. Two forms with color differences occur, one with white underparts and wing coverts with scattered dark spots that contrast with the black hindwings, and the dark form with brown coloration, reddish-brown coverts and body.
It often has a white “patch” at the base of the leading edge of the wing, which is visible from the front. In the center of the upper part of the wing we observe characteristic light-colored areas. In the area of Lake Kerkini National Park it is a spring visitor where it comes for its reproduction.
